We contacted most of the businesses on the list and found Josef to be the most knowledgeable, experienced and professional of those that we contacted. I initially met with Joel Huff and asked him for guidance and advice on maximizing the number of panels on our house, which was under construction. He also gave valuable advice on which company to obtain storage batteries from. Joel suggested how to best utilize the available roof space given that the house is in a forest location; he also gave valuable advice about several tall trees on the property that would likely decrease the time that the panels would be exposed to sunlight. The installation specialist Taylor and Joel efficiently and cleanly installed 44 solar panels and 2 storage batteries and provided a photo of the installed panels on the roof. Joel provided the necessary paperwork in time for us to receive the maximum allowable credit on my 2017 taxes. The solar panels and storage batteries were part of an overall strategy to obtain EarthCraft certification for the house. To conserve water, rainwater will be captured from the roofs for toilets and for irrigation of the future landscape. I first met Josef at a function and became interested in his work. We contacted Josef in 2011 during the construction of our new house. When we decided to build our house we also decided to include solar power in our plans. We met with Josef on several occasions and discussed the pros and cons of all the solar options available to us. Josef was very helpful in helping us decide which type of system to install. Escalating electric utility statements led my wife and I to explore alternative methods of electrical sources. We were interested in helping the environment and decided that we would explore the possibilities of solar energy.   I contacted our utility provider, Walton EMC, to seek the names of companies with whom they had knowledge and experience with solar energy.

Walton EMC provided the names of four companies but they did not recommend one company over another for obvious reasons because they had to work with all companies. I prepared a matrix to assist to help me determine the company with whom I would like to do business. I contacted representatives of each company and asked for a list of references that I could contact. This process took several weeks and after interviewing the different companies and checking the references, I selected Solar Sun World, LLC.

Mr. Josef Kullmann is the president of Solar Sun World LLC and was the contact person with whom I interacted. Josef presented his credentials and background of more than 30 years in solar energy. Josef made several trips to our home to determine the type of system that would be best for us. He reviewed our electrical usage over the past several years with the assistance of Walton EMC.

Josef suggested a solar system that would give us the ultimate performance based on our energy use. He offered several suggestions to maximize the benefits of the solar system. Some of these suggestions were and not limited to the following:

1.               Do more things during day light hours such as laundry, dishwashing, and other such items that require electricity.

2.               Change the timing of the irrigation system to run in daytime rather than night.

3.               Re-wire the well pump to use the solar system.

4.               Install an emergency generator backup system when the grid goes down.

Once an agreement was made, Josef ordered the solar panels and other required equipment to install the system. He gave us a scheduled start date for the installation and told us that the equipment should be on site within a reasonable time frame that would allow him to begin the installation.

Josef began the installation as scheduled. He was very efficient and took the necessary steps to protect the residence and surrounding area. There was no clutter on the site and no damage to the home. He asked our participation in the location of the distribution panels and the connection to the main distribution panel. This may not seem important, but when there are options it was nice to be asked instead of being told there are no options.

One of the things that I appreciated about Josef was his willingness to correct existing issues in the electrical system instead of ignoring them because it was not in his scope of work. He brought the electrical system up to current code requirements and provided the work required by Walton EMC for external shut down in the event of an emergency.

Josef installed the monitoring system on to my computer system so that I could see how the system was performing. He took the necessary time to instruct me on the use of the system.

The work was completed on time and without issue. A very thorough inspection and cleanup resulted in a very satisfactory and neat installation. Walton EMC told me that this was the largest residential system in their 12 county service area.

The system has been performing better than Josef had predicted. He had presented a very conservative estimate of utility savings and we made our decision to use Solar Sun World based on those conservative estimates. Josef had cautioned us from the very beginning that the performance of the system would be impacted by our ability to make behavior changes in our approach to electrical usage. Josef had told us that he likes to present a worst-case scenario for the owner and if we would be satisfied with that scenario, we would be pleasantly surprised at the results we could ultimately attain.

Our electrical usage had been averaging approximately $450.00-$500.00 per month. Josef had projected that we could probably save about 1/3 of our costs with the new system. For the first time since 1984 we have received electrical utility bills under $100.00. During peak solar generating we are receiving credit for the excess energy. We have been very satisfied with the system performance and we anticipate a payback period of 6-7 years.

I can highly recommend Solar Sun World without any reservations. They are very professional and knowledgeable about solar energy. Their workmanship was excellent, and they went the extra mile for this homeowner.
